Resources for Your Construction Project

Helpful hints for a successful working relationship with your general contractor

  • Carefully plan your project scope as much as possible before talking to potential general contractors. This will aid in the interview process.
  • Interview several contractors and solicit written bids. Make sure you are getting the same list in your bids to compare apples to apples which avoids any surprise changes in pricing or product.
  • Make sure to use The Washington State Dept of Labor and Industries website, http://www.lni.wa.gov/TradesLicensing/Contractors... to verify your contractors workers compensation coverage. Without coverage as the owner of the property you are liable for any and all medical expenses from work injuries. C.A.& G. UBI number for looking up our state information is 602 551 160. We are fully licensed and bonded in Washington state.
  • Get references whenever possible. C.A. & G. respects the privacy of our customers but can arrange for our new customers to review past work in the area. Check with the BBB for the rating of the company. C.A. & G. works hard to maintain a great reputation with our customers but we are aware that sometimes there can be bumps in the road during projects. We strive in everyway to make our customers satisfied with our performance. If there is any issue we are happy to work with our customers.
  • Set up frequent communication appointments to ensure everyone is one the “same page” regarding the project.
  • Ask the contractor for any anticipated problems or inconveniences. These are not fun to come up unexpected.
  • Put in writing any changes to the project. This helps both you and the contractor to be clear on the details.
  • Put in writing payment cycles for large jobs. Again, it helps both the owner and the contractor to plan the money situation.
  • Before making the final payment, request any lien releases from the suppliers or subcontractors. These are not always used on all jobs.
  • Make sure there is a sign off sheet for the finalization of the project.
